Workgroup Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) in the DCCV

Primary sclerosing cholangitis is a rare chronic disease in which inflammation and scarring make the the bile ducts narrow. Hence, the flow of bile to the gut is impeded and the liver is being damaged over time. The obstruction of the bile ducts can lead to abdominal pain, itching, jaundice, infections and finally cirrhosis and liver failure. The disease is usually progressive and occurs frequently in association with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), especially with ulcerative colitis, but also with Crohn's disease.

In 1997, some people who suffer from PSC founded the "Arbeitskreis PSC" (Workgroup PSC) as a part of the "DCCV" (German Crohn's and Colitis Association), which is the self-help organization for people with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis in Germany. We organize central meetings regularly and give information and support to other people with PSC via phone calls, e-mail conversation and brochures.
