DCCV research grant 'Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC)'

Private donation makes 150,000 Euro grant possible

Berlin (DCCV) – The Deutsche Morbus Crohn / Colitis ulcerosa Vereinigung e.V. [German Crohn’s Disease / Ulcerative Colitis Association – DCCV] is announcing a research grant of € 150,000.00 for ‘primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC)’. The grant has been made possible by a private donation.

Aims and objectives: The grant’s objective is to promote research on primary sclerosing cholangitis. The winning project should focus on questions relating to the pathogenesis, diagnostics or therapy of PSC. The intent is to fund such research projects which can be classified as fundamental research and which can be expected to lead to the development of new approaches to the treatment of PSC. Furthermore, the research grant is open to applicants with innovative project ideas on the diagnosis of PSC (such as [continued] development of non-invasive diagnostic methods), early detection of complications related to PSC (such as cholangiocarcinoma) or therapy of PSC.

Application deadlines and award procedure: The research grant is awarded by means of a two-phase application and assessment procedure. The initial application phase consists of the submission of informal English-language project outlines, which are not to exceed 3-6 pages in length, by 31 March 2009. These application outlines will be evaluated by an independent evaluation committee made up of international members. The outcome of the evaluation can be anticipated by June 2009 at latest. In the second phase of the procedure, the applicants with project outlines which received positive evaluations will be requested to submit a detailed project application (approx. 20 DIN A4 pages) under specification of a deadline (3 months as of announcement). The formal grant applications submitted will be evaluated by an international evaluation committee.
